Wartburg Hall

Wartburg Hall is a six-bedroom residence located on the campus of Central City Lutheran Mission. Residents, coming from a variety of graduate and under-graduate programs, form an inter-disciplinary learning and mentoring community 2interacting with neighborhood, CCLM staff and Mission dynamics as a vibrant learning center in downtown San Bernardino . Wartburg Hall was

dedicated in February, 2005.

An on-campus living experience enables visiting students to experience the richness of CCLM's multiple community-building programs during their stay at CCLM. Wartburg Hall's central location provides residents easy access to spaces that bring the community together for both formal and informal interaction. At the same time, Wartburg Hall provides a personal space to process activities, study, socialize with other students and relax. By living on campus, students become engaged in the formal and informal life that constitutes an urban community enhancing both social and intellectual interaction. Interaction with neighborhood leaders provides visiting students with experience through an extensive variety of cultural, educational, and social programs. Students are thus allowed the opportunity to balance study time, work time and free time as cooperative factors in their education.

Unlike college dormitories, Wartburg Hall offers a unique location in the heart of a vibrant and creative community organization situated in one of the country's poorest urban neighborhoods. Residents at Wartburg Hall relate their learning experience to this cultural and social context and to community efforts to promote health, education and social justice. It is this connection to community struggles that makes the living and learning experience at Wartburg Hall exceptional. Residents are provided with a structured action/reflection program that includes journaling, common readings and group discussion with neighborhood leaders and CCLM staff as well as with other students.

To date, Wartburg Hall has provided creative experiential programs for students of public health, social work, education and theology. While open to exploring options with all students, Central City Lutheran Mission is best equipped to work with students in the social sciences, including theology, public health, social work, nursing and community sociology. Our administrative department welcomes students in non-profit management, grant writing, accounting, and marketing.
