The Three Cross

The three cross represent the burden shared by our community. They were conceived and painted by the youth of the mission. One cross symbolizes sexual exploitation, the other drug addiction and the third the high rate of juvenile incarceration.

CHANGE, CHALLENGE, CONTINUATION
David Kalke, pastor and founding director, resigned from CCLM in January, 2010. His creative and dynamic leadership pushed and prodded the development of an amazing array of community based programs and services for homeless men, HIV/Aids persons, youth and families. Despite the big hole Rev. Kalke left, the programs continue. Up to 50 men sleep on church pews each evening, meals are served to 30-50 homeless and jobless community people a day. 30 women do aerobic exercises several times a week, with watching babies propped on tables. Tuesdays food bags are distribution to around 50 families. 30 children from the community come in after school daily for homework help, inspiration and a hot meal. Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, Friday evening community activities and food bring families together. And "Pops", a full time live in volunteer, presides over the campus. In addition, over 25 people with HIV/Aids are living in a supportive setting in 11 individual homes scattered around the neighborhood, assisted in their ongoing efforts by supportive staff. The H Street Clinic continues it's important work of accessible health care. All of this is truly God's work--- freely sharing with people in crisis, people with Aids/HIV, families at risk, immigrants.
Along with a small staff, an amazing array of volunteers, from among the homeless and from local churches, keep the programs functioning. The wonderful network of people, businesses, churches keep food , clothes and other supplies coming. The strong emergency support of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and Pacifica Synod-ELCA help us move forward. Five loaves and two fishes--whatever is there is shared, in God's name. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO CARRY THIS WORK ON.
Away from the cold
